1  The Interstellar Medium / The Interstellar Medium / Weber State Super Computer Running OS X on: August 18, 2007, 01:33:16 PM
Anyone have a chance to see or play around with the new 128 node cluster system donated by NASA to WSU? The really neat thing is that it runs OS X! I'm a bit of a Mac fan so please excuse the fanboydom. Smiley

What's even cooler, is that the next OS X will rank up there with HP, IBM and SUN. It has achieved Unix 03 certification so it will be more likely to be used in business and science. Science is the particularly cool part.

I'll have to email someone at WSU and ask for a tour.

Hey, here is a suggestion for newbies like me.

Not a bad product for the price and it gets you started.  I plan on buying it sometime.

If anyone buys it - wanna post a review?

What do you guys think of this observing kit as far as beginners go? Is it worth the dough? Thanks!

As far as I know there aren't that many threads on here yet - so in a weekend you could probably read all of them, but perhaps someone has a better suggestion.  Welcome to the board!

Pick what you like best.  Something to note: There is also a free version of Zone Alarm.
6  Beginners Corner / Beginners Corner / Re: Scope that works with iBook on: December 16, 2006, 12:36:22 AM
Thanks again.  Pretty soon I'll start saving up some money, and then I'll double my hard drive space and then I'll have the option of buying that stuff.  I'm looking forward to it!

Thanks again!  I'll definitely get that book when I have some extra money.  I'd also love some good software and since we both have G4's, it should work fine with my iBook.  I'm going to save up for a while for a good scope, even a used one.  I've also got school to consider.  However, I'm definitely interested.  Do you have a link to the site that writes the astro-software you use?  Thanks!

I missed that one.  Not sure why, unless I wasn't feeling well.  That's been me as of late.  How did it go?  Does anyone take pictures at these things?  Laters!
9  OAS General Discussion / Ogden Astronomical Society General Board / Re: Beginners Telescope Class In November. on: November 28, 2006, 01:33:56 PM
I bet that passed already.  Did you go?
10  Beginners Corner / Beginners Corner / Re: Scope that works with iBook on: October 31, 2006, 09:24:51 PM
Thanks!  That did indeed help.  It will probably be a while before I purchase that scope but I think sometime in the near future I will purchase Starry Night.  I plan on getting a Macbook Pro before I get a Celestron Scope, and it will cost in the vicinity of $2400 or more.  However, that Macbook Pro will have a 200 gig hard drive, so plenty of room for pics and programs!  Thanks again!

I have a co-worker that would like some info on CD Radios.  She has a lot of newbie questions about them.  If you want to give me a contact email or phone number, you can privately send me a message.  Thanks!
12  Beginners Corner / Beginners Corner / Re: Scope that works with iBook on: October 27, 2006, 01:21:23 PM
I'd like to eventually do all that, especially astrophotography.  If the software was also like Starry Night, then that would be great so I can learn that kind of stuff.  Thanks for the reply!

I'm basically just window shopping but I'm wondering if there is a telescope out there, for beginners, that works with a Mac.  I've got an iBook G4 that I might have for a while, and wouldn't mind doing some star gazing using it.  Thanks!
